ABOUT LEARNING THEIR WAY

Learning Their Way believes in teaching children according to their own individual needs and abilities.

We specialise in tutoring students of all ages who have difficulty in reading, spelling and writing. This includes students with reading difficulties or a reading disability such as dyslexia (reading) or dysgraphia (writing).

Our aim is to give students the upmost opportunity to learn to read fluently with understanding and to write meaningful words and sentences.

“As a teacher, I have always enjoyed relating to and engaging with students. I want them to learn in a positive and happy environment, where they feel relaxed and comfortable. Working at home also allows me to offer flexible appointments to accommodate every student.”

- Principal Tutor Leanne MacLeod.

GERALDTON SPECIALISED TUTORING

Handsome young teen boy reading book doi

Specialised tutoring for students in Primary School all the way through to High School with reading difficulties or disabilities (Dyslexia/Dysgraphia).

I use a linguistic program endorsed by SPELD (Dyslexia Foundation) called Sounds-Write. To use Sounds-Write, I was required to complete a comprehensive training program. Sounds-Write is genuinely based on the sounds in speech. This proven approach has been identified as a successful means for the teaching of reading and spelling. The lessons are systematic, cumulative, and multisensory to ensure optimal learning.

HI I AM LEANNE MACLEOD

Principal Tutor at Learning Their Way

I have always wanted to be a teacher and knew this as a young child.  Throughout the years great teachers and college lecturers have given me the tools and insight into what makes a lesson engaging, as well as how to be a compassionate teacher.

I first trained at Churchlands Teachers College and have been teaching for the past 41 years. Let’s just say that is a lot of years to see how students learn and how they like to learn.

I have been fortunate to have had a long career and extensive experience across many areas of teaching, this includes but is not limited to:

  • the classroom in city schools and country schools

  • distance education in West Perth and School of the Air in Carnarvon

  • remote teaching at Looma, the Kimberley, Roebourne and Karratha

  • music specialist and in the classroom in Geraldton

  • progressed / promoted to senior teacher in Geraldton

I am also a member of:

  •  Dyslexia SPELD Foundation

  •  ATA  -  Australian Tutoring Association

  •  WACOT  - West Australian College of Teaching

  •  hold a current Working With Children certificate.

As a teacher, I have always enjoyed relating to and engaging with students. I want them to learn in a positive and happy environment, where they feel relaxed and comfortable. That is the basis upon why Learning Their Way –  Geraldton Specialised Tutoring was founded.

 TESTIMONIAL

"As parents we are forever grateful for the impact Mrs MacLeod has had on our son’s love of learning and for changing the trajectory of his education. After starting with Mrs MacLeod well behind the 8 ball in terms of his literacy skills, our son is now reading for pleasure and is able to keep up with classroom instructions and his peers. She has opened a door to our son reaching his potential, a door that we had been struggling to open."

Mrs Crosthwaite, Geraldton
